The Wella 7A Medium Smokey Ash Blonde has a blue base. This means that it contains blue pigments which are designed to counteract (or neutralise) brassy orange tones.

This colour is for you if you’re for light, ash brown results. It is perfect for toning orange from your hair, either from bleaching or from colour fade. Wella 7A Medium Smokey Ash Blonde is also great for grey coverage.

I recommend this colour for level 7, 8 & 9 hair.
If your hair is darker than a level 7, you won’t be able to get the same results as you see in the swatches.
If your hair is a level 10 (white blonde) you might find this shade is too ashy for you.

WELLA 7A MEDIUM SMOKEY ASH BLONDE BEFORE & AFTER

Here are my before and afters of the Wella 7A - please excuse the low quality! I used both a lighter yellow swatch and a more orange swatch to give you an idea of how your results will be. The lighter your hair is to start, the ashier your results will be (but you can make this colour even ashier - see the end of the article for my tips!).

WELLA 7A COLOUR INSTRUCTIONS

The Wella Colour Charm 7A Medium Smokey Ash Blonde is a permanent colour, so needs to be mixed with a developer.

You can use either a 20 Vol Developer for permanent results and grey coverage, or a 10 Vol Developer for semi-permanent results and a slightly darker result.

Step 1. Mix 1 part colour with 2 parts developer
For example, 50ml colour with 100ml developer (for an all over application on shoulder length hair).

Step 2. Apply your colour mixture to your hair and allow to process for up to 45 minutes

Step 3. Wash out the colour and style as usual

If no hair colour is ever ashy enough for you, mix 2-4 capfuls of the Wella Colour Charm Toner in 050 Cooling Violet into your mixture. This will give you an even ashier result!
